Canva, the Australian design software giant, has conducted its first known round of layoffs, letting go of the majority of its technical writing team in late March 2025. The move follows a company-wide directive issued nine months earlier for employees to aggressively adopt AI tools to boost productivity. The technical writing division reportedly embraced this mandate so effectively that their roles became redundant, as AI could handle much of the work.
