In July 2020, women's coworking operator The Wing laid off 56 employees, a mix of hourly and corporate staff, as part of ongoing restructuring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This followed a previous round in April that cut the majority of hourly workers and half of the corporate workforce. The company, which had grown to about 12,000 members across multiple cities and raised over $100 million from investors, was forced to temporarily close its locations and pause memberships and programming.
